How do I play?It’s pretty simple: you register on this page, and then we send you your link to play (via email - check your junk/spam folder) on December 26th at 10am. Click the link, and you can access the directions and your personal score sheet to record your answers. There are trivia questions, riddles, items that need to be found downtown, and photos and videos to be taken. There will also be a requirement to post photos (or videos) to Facebook or Instagram along with the Hashtags below (so that our judges can find them): #HuntForGold2025 #MyOttawa #MonOttawa #EscapeManor
How many participants can be on a team? Can I play alone?Hunters can play alone or as a team. Each team member can register to qualify for prizes (or play with an adult who has registered). Each registration can qualify for the prize draw if they achieve a high enough score. All scores are tracked individually, and teams can internally agree on how to share a prize should they win one.
How do I track my answers, progress, score?On the day the hunt begins (December 26th), you will receive a personal URL link from us via email; this will take you to your personal tracking page, where you will enter your answers and track your progress. The link will work across any web-enabled device; therefore, you can start on your laptop, close it and then pick up where you left off on your phone, tablet, etc… Neat, eh? For the online posts, we ask that you include the following hashtags with each post (#MyOttawa, #MonOttawa, #HuntForGold2025, and #EscapeManor ); this will allow us to find your photos and score your posts.
What are the prizes?There are three autographed World Juniors jerseys, three escape room experiences for up to 6 players, and a return trip to Ottawa from Ottawa Tourism, including flights on Air Canada and a two-night stay at the Chateau Laurier. All participants will also receive a 10% off promo code to use at any Escape Manor location throughout the tournament.
How do you win the prizes?There are ten prize draws, across three tiers (5 for bronze, 4 for silver, and 1 for gold). In order to qualify for each tier’s draw(s), you must achieve the point threshold associated with each tier: Bronze = 25-50pts, Silver = 51-75pts, Gold = 76 -100+ points. If you achieve up to 50 points, you only qualify for the tier 1 draws; 51-75 points = qualifying for both tier 1 and tier 2 draws and so on. There is also a spirit prize for the individual who demonstrates the most spirit in their online posts; this will be decided upon by the Ottawa Tourism team.
Which Prizes are associated with each tier?- Bronze tier prizes include World Juniors tee-shirts.
- Silver tier prizes include Escape Manor escape room experiences for up to 6 guests for use in Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton, Regina, Saskatoon, or Brisbane.
- Gold tier prizes include a return trip to Ottawa from Ottawa Tourism, including a two-night stay at the Chateau Laurier and return airfare on Air Canada.
If the winner of the return trip to Ottawa lives in Ottawa, they can have a staycation with the two-night stay at the Chateau Laurier and use the Air Canada travel voucher (up to $1000) to travel anywhere in Canada (excluding blackout dates).
Where do winners get their prizes?The winners will be contacted on Monday, January 6th at 2pm and can make arrangements to receive their prizes from the Ottawa Tourism team. Winners may be asked to share a photo with their prize. Out-of-town winners will be mailed/shipped their prizes. Local winners will have the option to pick up from the Ottawa Tourism Visitor Centre or have the prize(s) mailed/shipped.
What equipment/access do you need to play?In order to participate, you will need the following:
- A laptop, tablet or computer +/or smartphone with internet access
- A valid email address
- A Facebook or Instagram account (optional for maximum points)
